The history of Portugal and its inhabitants is inseparable from that of the Iberian Peninsula, the country built its own identity despite the strong influence of neighboring Spain. From the Muslim conquest to the Carnation Revolution through colonial times, Portugal’s rich history has forged a people proud of its traditions while remaining open to the world.
Indeed, many Portuguese emigrated during the 20th century, but the attachment to the country of origin was mostly strong. As a result, Portuguese culture and culinary specialties such as Port wine or cod preparations have been exported all over the world.
The rich Portuguese culture is strongly marked by the Catholic religion.
Processions and other religious events are indeed numerous in this country where the number of churchgoers remains high. The architectural heritage is therefore also very rich. As for fado, the art that mixes music and traditional songs of which Amalia Rodrigues is considered the queen, it has become a symbol of Portugal and is the pride of its inhabitants.
Portugal develops year by year its trails and cycle routes. The rout along the Atlantic Ocean is particularly well endowed but cities and nature parks are becoming more and more hospitable to cyclists. The development of infrastructures goes hand in hand with lodgings and suitable services.
The EuroVelo 1 that runs along the coast of Portugal is an invitation to go further during your cycling holiday to discover the charms of this authentic country.
The climate of Portugal is relatively moderate despite its geographical location in southern Europe, largely due to the sea breeze. Inland, the heat can be heavier in summer. The climate is dry which offers good conditions for cycling around the country.

Hi Fabien, Overall, we liked the experience very much and will recommend your company and service to other friends. with best regards, we had a great time (09/2015)
It has been an excellent experience. Totally raw with the bicycles, everything was organized so well (bicycles, housings, local information to eating) that we enjoy every moment of the tour. The explanations of the first day on the part of the guide us turned out to be very useful and to know that always you could rely on the organization it allowed us to enjoy the trip. The tour, on there having no been rolled traffic, is most indicated for people that as us it cannot circulate in road with the bicycle. The way of sirga that accompanies on the channel of Nantes Brest is of a spectacular beauty. It seems of another time, to admire the flowers that adorn the exclusas of the Channel, the villages that you are, a marvel. What more we estimate : All the explanations the day of delivery of the bicycles and of the documentation. The transport of suitcases and last day the taxi up to the village where we had to catch the bus. We come to France without having anything organized absolutely. (09/2017)
Hi David, Geoff and I are now back in Canada having thoroughly enjoyed our cycling trip. The bikes were excellent and we did not have any mechanical issues with them. They were a joy to ride. The daily distance was perfect for us as well. The paniers were also great and provided enough room for our daily needs. The accommodation was excellent and our bags were always ready when we arrived. We also took in many of your suggestions for places to eat and they were great recommendations. We ate well over the week with wonderful seafood. Thanks also for your assistance in getting us to Saint Malo and for assisting us retrieve our passports !! (...) Thanks again for a great week and all the best. I would recommend Abicyclette to others. Prudence (08/2018)
Hello Natalie, We are now back in Sweden from our bicycle tour in Normandy. I would just like to give you some feed back from the tour: We were all very satisfied with the trip. When planning the trip, we found it very easy to work with you, quick answers and good flexibility for our ideas. Excellent choice of roads, which took us through the fantastic landscapes of Normandy, and also along the fashinating see shores ending with the first D-day shore. Most roads with very little traffic. We also appreciated the kindness of all french drivers who never complained although we sometimes were in the middle of the small narrow roads. The distances was OK for all of us. When there was a choice of long or short distances, we always selected the long ones. Easy to find the roads with the excellent GPS and the very good Road Book. We also appreciated the very good choice of B&B, places where we felt wellcome and with good standard. A trip we will recommend to our friends. We also had good luck with the weather, lots of sun, not to strong winds, just one or two showers in daytime. (Was the weather also organised by you??) With Best Regards (05/2017)
