Each day is savored with gentle effort, each evening is prolonged in the refinement of luxurious hotels, true cocoons of charm and serenity. As you cycle along, push open the doors of secret cellars, meet passionate winemakers, and discover the soul of the Burgundy vineyards. A rare, emotional experience, where the pleasure of cycling reveals itself as a new way of life.
Set off on a bike ride through one of France’s most beautiful wine-growing regions: Burgundy. This exceptional trip takes you from La Bussière-sur-Ouche to Beaune, following the peaceful Burgundy Canal, passing through the historic city of Dijon and taking the famous Voie des Vignes. Designed for travelers in search of a gentle way of life, this tour harmoniously combines unspoiled nature, exceptional heritage, and gourmet pleasures, at an accessible pace that leaves time to savor every moment.
From the moment you start pedaling along the canal, you are immersed in an atmosphere of absolute tranquility. The flat and safe towpaths wind between the calm water, ancient locks, and rows of century-old trees. By bike, Burgundy reveals its intimate and verdant side: reflections of barges on the water, birdsong in the early morning, stone villages nestled around their bell towers. This first immersion is a real breath of fresh air, ideal for getting into the rhythm of cycling.
The arrival in Dijon marks a refined urban interlude. Former capital of the Dukes of Burgundy, the city boasts medieval streets, elegant mansions, and lively squares. Stroll through the historic center, admire the sculpted facades, linger on a terrace to taste the local specialties: every detour is an invitation to discovery. With its culture, gastronomy, and art de vivre, Dijon offers a delightful contrast to the gentle landscapes you have cycled through.
You resume your cycling tour for the legendary crossing of the vineyards on the Voie des Vignes, a veritable balcony overlooking the Côte de Beaune. Rows of vines stretch as far as the eye can see, punctuated by villages with evocative names, walled vineyards, and wine estates steeped in history. As the miles go by, you find yourself in the heart of one of the most prestigious vineyards in the world. You can stop off at authentic cellars to meet passionate winemakers, discover their expertise, and taste some of the grands crus that have made the region famous. These moments of sharing give the trip a special soul, combining tradition, terroir, and sensory pleasure.
Each stage of the journey ends in the cozy comfort of luxurious hotels, charming refuges after a gentle day’s effort. In the evening, it’s time to relax: peaceful gardens, gourmet dining, elegant rooms, and atmospheres steeped in history. In Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wines, the elegance of heritage blends with the art of wine-growing, culminating in the discovery of its famous hospices and centuries-old cellars. This cycling trip is much more than just an itinerary: it is a sensory immersion, a slow and precious journey into the heart of an authentic, generous and deeply inspiring Burgundy.
Itinerary

From LA BUISSIERE SUR OUCHE to DIJON 35km 50m
You spend the day cycling along greenways and bike paths to the port of Dijon. You mainly follow the towpath that runs alongside the Burgundy Canal. This day offers a beautiful ride between locks, the Château de Barbirey, and small ports. Finally, you arrive in Dijon, a city of art and history, where you can explore its rich historical heritage, including the old town, Saint-Bénigne Cathedral, and the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy.
- For a few more km 62km
The first loop takes you to Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Perched above the Burgundy Canal, the town offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. At its heart, you will find a splendid medieval fortress. It is one of the last remaining examples of 14th-century Burgundian military architecture.
From DIJON to BEAUNE 52km 338m
Leaving from Dijon, this route quickly plunges you into the world of Burgundy’s great wines. You travel along the first hillsides of the Côtes de Nuits, past villages with evocative names: Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot and its emblematic château, witness to the monastic history of the vineyards. In Nuits-Saint-Georges, the beating heart of the local wine industry, a stopover is a must to discover its cellars and heritage. Continuing on to the Côte de Beaune, you pass through rolling countryside where the vines stretch as far as the eye can see. The route takes you to Aloxe-Corton, famous for its grands crus, before reaching Beaune, former city of the Dukes of Burgundy. Stroll through its narrow streets and don’t miss its wine museum, which traces the region’s wine-growing history.
BEAUNE, BOUCLE DE LA MONTAGNE DE BEAUNE 24km 268m
You leave Beaune and head west. Between vineyards and forests, you cycle to Bouze-lès-Beaune. You ride around the Beaune mountain to reach the village of Savigny-lès-Beaune. There you discover the castle of Savigny-lès-Beaune, a 14th century fortified castle located on a 20-hectare vineyard estate in the Côte de Beaune vineyards.
- For a few more km 52km 799m
On a hilly course between vineyards, woods and countryside, this longer variant goes further west to the hamlet of Patte d’Oie.
BEAUNE, Boucle des Grands Crus 36km 191m
This loop guides you south of Beaune. At the beginning of the stage, the village of Pommard can be the occasion for a first stop. The village produces the AOC Pommard, a red wine from the Côte de Beaune vineyards, which Flaubert praises in Madame Bovary. As far as Puligny-Montrachet, you pedal along the “voie des vignes”, a green route that winds through the vineyards.
On the way back to Beaune, you pass by the Etangs d’Or, an ideal place for an open-air picnic or a nap in the shade.
- For a few more km 61km 711m
After the vineyard path that leads you to Puligny Montrachet, you will gain height. There are many points of interest along the way: the château of Chassagne Montrachet, owned by the Picard family, the medieval town of Nolay, the cirque du bout du monde at an altitude of 530 metres and the cliffs of Saint-Romain. There are several clear viewpoints from which to contemplate the rolling hills of the region.
