Destination

Champagne

From the city of coronations to the avenue de Champagne

Reims is eager to unveil the legacy of its glorious history and immerse you in the prestigious world of the most famous and most festive wine.

Discover Champagne by bike

Here a refined atmosphere emerges, and a relaxed ambience reigns the streets and cafe terraces … But you must momentarily leave the beautiful city to reach the capital of Champagne, Epernay!

Before that, it is necessary to go around the Mountain of Reims by its small undulating roads. It is a landscape of woods and vineyards, dotted with villages with undeniable charms that you will cross. Moët and Chandon, Veuve-Cliquot, Mum display their famous names at the foot of their vineyards. We invite you to take advantage of the reception and know-how of smaller farms such as those of Ernest Remy, Vincent Renoir and Jean-Claude Mouzon.

At Epernay you will be enthralled by the Avenue de Champagne and drive on the Côte des Blancs. Then you go back north and round again the Montagne de Reims but this time from the west to join the  Cité des Sacres.

Day 1

REIMS, LOOP THROUGH THE SAINT-THIERRY HILLS 48km 495m Niveau Forme

Starting from Reims, a UNESCO World Heritage City of Art and History, you leave the cathedral’s spires behind and glide into the rolling vineyards of the Montagne de Reims. Following the Vesle River to Jonchery-sur-Vesle, you climb gently toward the hills of the Saint-Thierry massif, a green amphitheatre where the noble grapes of Champagne flourish. In Rosnay, the church tower overlooks endless rows of Pinot Meunier. The Champagne Tourist Route then leads you through charming wine villages — Thil, Merfy, Chenay — each a quiet guardian of its terroir. The landscape alternates between wooded valleys and perfectly aligned vines. Gradually, Reims reappears on the horizon, radiant in the golden light of the Champagne plain.

Meeting with our local guide

Before your first ride, we invite you to meet one of our guides, at your place of departure. A time of exchange, a privileged moment to give you our last practical tips, must-see places and experiences, to answer all your questions, take care of your bike fitting to begin your trip.

Day 2

From REIMS to EPERNAY 58km 443m Niveau Forme

You leave the city of coronations to reach the capital of Champagne. But before reaching Epernay, it is the Regional Natural Park of the Montagne de Reims which opens its doors. You first cross the coast of the island of France, through its route of champagne before reaching the curious twisted beech trees of the Forest Domaniale Verzy. Admire the ocean of vineyards at the top of the Verzenay Lighthouse or take the time to enjoy a glass of Champagne at Perchingbar, a bar perched among the trees. Follow our advice and visit one of our friendly cellars. Then the Vallée de la Marne welcomes you and it’s along its side channel that you will end this pleasant day.

Day 3

EPERNAY, BOUCLE DES BLANCS DES BLANCS 37km 577m Niveau Loisir

You ride on the famous white coast and its “White Whites”. It owes its name to its grape, Chardonnay, and offers charming roads around the small mountain of Avize. You will end your day by contemplating the impressive Maisons de Champagne of the avenue of the same name. Here you are in Cuis facing the Montagne d’Avize and its “White Whites”, which takes its name from the color of its grape variety: the Chardonnay. A winery visit can be the occasion for a pleasant tasting break before your return to Epernay.

Day 4

From EPERNAY to REIMS 43km 638m Niveau Forme

Go west, you ride along the side channel of the Marne before following north and crossing the valley of the Ardre. Here the Romanesque churches participate in the structuring of a quality landscape, also marked by the violent battles of the great war.

Day 5

REIMS

End of the stay at the end of the morning. After breakfast you will have time to wander through the city and up to the impressive cathedral.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience which combined exercise, sightseeing and pleasure all in one. We enjoyed the varied landscapes – forests, vineyards, fields, beside rivers and through villages. Thank you for your help and it was a great experience.

Traveling by bike with our children was pretty easy. The daily distances were well adapted for our needs and we had no trouble in achieving the destinations in time. The pretty short hops offered us the possibility to explore the surrounding. Thanks a lot for your efforts.

The route and scenery was spectacular, but we really enjoyed all the hotels we stayed at during our bike ride, they were in perfect locations and offered excellent service throughout. A special highlight was in Saint-Lo, where we had a front-row view of the town fireworks right from our hotel window!

Fantastic trip! Probably the best bike tour I have been on. Really like the bikes, gps and hotels we stayed at. First class!
