A privileged passage between the Mediterranean world and Northern Europe, the Rhone Valley deploys its vineyards in six departments. We take you to the heart of Provence, the southern part of the region, to discover its most prestigious vineyards and most beautiful landscapes. Through small roads surrounded by sun-drenched vineyards, this trip offers you a sensory experience punctuated, through the seasons, by the life cycle of vine and the life of winemakers. From vineyard to vineyard, you will see how the Rhône Valley has played an active role in the birth of French wine designations.

Day 2

ORANGE, CHÂTEAUNEUF DU PAPE LOOP 39km 263m Niveau Loisir

Starting from the ancient city of the Princes of Orange, this loop first takes you to the village of Courthézon and its 12th-century ramparts. Then you enter the vineyards of the most famous appellation of Côtes du Rhône wines. The charming wine routes lead you to the famous village of Châteauneuf du Pape.  After these discoveries, you will understand why this precious nectar once attained the rank of “Vin du Pape” (Wine of the Pope), which then opened the doors to worldwide renown.

  • For a few more km 78km 428m Niveau Forme

The long version takes you across the Rhône River to the Gard department. First, you reach Tavel, famous for its slate and pebble soil, which produces one of the best rosé wines in France, where the Château de Trinquevedel stands. The route continues to the village of Lirac, whose little-known wine is produced at the foot of limestone hills and oak woods. Between dry stone walls and garrigue landscapes, you can enjoy a typically Mediterranean atmosphere. The return journey follows the banks of the Rhône, offering a peaceful transition to the ancient city of Orange. This stage is a true immersion in historical heritage and wine-growing excellence.

Day 3

From ORANGE to SUZE LA ROUSSE via Massif d'Uchaux 35km 241m Niveau Loisir

From the center of Orange, a city of art and history known for its UNESCO-listed Roman theatre, the route heads north towards Piolenc, a Provençal village noted for its Saint-Pierre sanctuary and garlic-based specialties. The road then climbs into the wooded Uchaux massif, covered in pines and scrubland. On the heights, vineyards stretch between the trees, marking the entrance to the Côtes du Rhône region. The itinerary continues through the peaceful Rieu forest before reaching the quiet hamlets of Le Cros and Derboux. A short ascent leads to the Château de Hauteville, a privately owned estate notable for its commanding silhouette. The ride ends in Suze-la-Rousse, overlooked by its impressive medieval castle, a listed historic monument that watches over the village rooftops and surrounding vineyards.

By another road

From ORANGE to ROCHEGUDE, via Sérignan du Comtat 35km 215m Niveau Loisir

Today you head north to reach Suze la Rousse. On your way you will discover the Romanesque chapel of Piolenc then the charming village of Sérignan du Comtat which has an admirable heritage of old buildings most often relating to the medieval period. This small village, home of Pierre-Henri Fabre will be a great stopover for lovers of architectural and natural heritage.

Day 4

From the historic center dominated by the ruins of the old castle, an enchanting panorama invites you to taste the products of its generous terroir. Your route today ends at Vaison la Romaine. Be charmed by its ancient theater and medieval town, called “Haute Ville”, topped by the ruins of a 12th century feudal castle.

  • For a few more km 52km 741m Niveau Forme

We had a truly wonderful experience from start to finish. The service was excellent throughout — from the initial booking process all the way to the end of the trip, everything was smooth and well-organized. The bikes provided were high-quality and well-maintained and the hotel accommodations along the route were very comfortable. We had a great time. Overall, it was a fantastic trip, and I would definitely recommend Abicyclette to anyone considering a cycling adventure in France!

This was just such a unique way to experience France. We are both from the US and would have had no idea how to plan which small cities to see in Provence and seeing everything by bike was really fun. We are not cyclists and have never done something like this but are very active in our daily lives so this was a fun new activity to do as well. We visited one winery directly in our route on the way to Vaison la Romain that was so amazing.

Thank you so much for organizing this experience! It was our first cycling trip and we definitely feel like we want to do more now.

Everything was great, from the start to the end: all the food recommendations, the beach, flamingoes everywhere. Great bikes, great customer service – knowing that there is someone on the phone for us all the time. Great GPS navigation. All the hotels picked were nice.

Thank you Gaëlle, Simon and everyone else!

The overall design of the trip was excellent. Photos along the way my greatest souvenirs. Exciting stuff at every turn, every day looks different, and the food off the charts. Great accompanying book highlighting the day and stops.Bags always promptly delivered and the Hotels were great. Bikes were smooth as silk. GPS device was an excellent tool, we loved the “off the route” warning feature. Easy to get back on track.

There were many beautiful experiences while cycling on the suggested routes. We greatly appreciated the services related to the bikes and luggage, the food in the recommended restaurants, and the good and comfortable hotel choices. The landscapes were incredible, especially in the Camargue cycling area. In general, the colors, the smells, the animals… we don’t know what we would single out in particular.

We want to thank the entire team, especially Simon, who responded very quickly with his advice and solutions. Thank you for a truly wonderful cycling experience that we will remember for a lifetime.

Each day was different watching the landscape change as moved deeper into more Mediterranean type areas especially on the return leg. The scent of lavender, the beautiful on the whole quiet roads, the weather was perfect though 36c was a bit hot! The mountains and the gorge were truly remarkable. Thank you so much for organising such a fabulous trip!
