Saint-Malo and its inner city
The Mont Saint-Michel
The D-Day Landing Beaches
Bayeux, a beautiful preserved historical city in Normandy
7 days onto the path of freedom from Saint-Malo to Bayeux
Along the coast in Brittany and Normandy, you ride along the path the allies opened in 1944 after their landing on the Normandy beaches. The route offers many historical and natural sites for you to discover. The Second World War is still present along the Côte de Nacre. Through places of memories, you can feel the atmosphere and relive historical events.
The route will take you to:
– The Mont Saint-Michel, part of UNESCO’s World Heritage, which calls travelers from around the world. Climb to the top and visit the abbey. It is worth a visit !
– Mont Saint-Michel’s Bay, an exceptional natural site you ride close to thanks to a small road away from traffic.
– DDAY Landing Beaches: Omaha, Gold, Juno beaches and related sites like the Pointe du Hoc and Port Winston d’Arromanches. They help better understand the landing and its difficulties. Many museums retrace the history with equipment and archive images.
Participate in a journey through time and space, celebrating courage and freedom.
Today this first itinerary brings you to discover one of the most beautiful villages in France: Saint-Suliac. Initially in the Malouine countryside, you enjoy the banks of the Rance, a beautiful river that pushes its strength of the tides. The water offers a wonderful spectacle when the setting sun is reflected and return its light on its banks and the stones of the village of Saint-Suliac
Your route will take you along the Côte d’Emeraude and the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel.Between land and sea your route will bring you to meet local producers: oyster farmers, mussel farmers, and other farmers… So many specialties that you can taste along your stay.
After locking your bike at the foot of Mont Saint-Michel, take the shuttle that takes you there. Just another short walk to reach the abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You reach Cancale to discover the famous oyster of this tradionnal breton port. A nice experience and a great tasting in front of the sea, in front of the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel.
Far out in the Bay, a small road runs along the sea. The spot place is ideal for a picnic! Before that, it will take an effort to climb Avranches, a typical city of Normandy with its dark stones and small shops. Delicatessen specialties are very appreciated and allow you to easily compose your lunch.
From Granville, a seaside resort town which has preserved its prestige thanks to its architecture, you ride North to Coutances. Visit a beautiful church in the city center. The Normandy grove opens up in front of you. The road to Saint-Lo is a bit more hilly..
You ride up to the ocean through the Regional Natural Parc des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin. From Grandcamp-Maisy to Port-en-Bessin, it is a journey into the history of the landing of the Second World War. The Hoc Point, Omaha Beach, and the Colleville-sur-Mer American Cemetery are some of the highlights of the day. You will appreciate the arrival on Port-en-Bessin. A typical and authentic fishing port and very enjoyable city to stop for the night.
You ride along the sea up to Juno Beach. Discover Winston Harbor where dozens of pontoons still laying on the sea constituted an artificial port for the Landing of June 1944. With a little regret you leave the Normandy coast for Bayeux. Fortunately, the road is beautiful. The Seulles valley you ride through shelters has many and very pretty mills. In Bayeux, one of the towns miraculously spared from the bombings, stroll through the streets and appreciate its typical houses.
End of stay after breakfast. Before you leave enjoy a visit to the Bayeux tapestry museum. It displays a major and amazingly preserved 11th century work of art, a 70 meters (230 feet) long tapestry relating the conquest of England by William the Conqueror!

Bonjour, Suite au Week-End, un peu pluvieux, passé ensemble autour des Châteaux de la Loire, merci pour tes efforts et ta compagnie. A une prochaine fois, sans doute... (05/2013)
Hello new friends, I wish to say "thank you for a great time and good-bye for now". I missed saying so to most of you yesterday. all the best (05/2013)
Hello Natalie, We are now back in Sweden from our bicycle tour in Normandy. I would just like to give you some feed back from the tour: We were all very satisfied with the trip. When planning the trip, we found it very easy to work with you, quick answers and good flexibility for our ideas. Excellent choice of roads, which took us through the fantastic landscapes of Normandy, and also along the fashinating see shores ending with the first D-day shore. Most roads with very little traffic. We also appreciated the kindness of all french drivers who never complained although we sometimes were in the middle of the small narrow roads. The distances was OK for all of us. When there was a choice of long or short distances, we always selected the long ones. Easy to find the roads with the excellent GPS and the very good Road Book. We also appreciated the very good choice of B&B, places where we felt wellcome and with good standard. A trip we will recommend to our friends. We also had good luck with the weather, lots of sun, not to strong winds, just one or two showers in daytime. (Was the weather also organised by you??) With Best Regards (05/2017)
Hi David, Geoff and I are now back in Canada having thoroughly enjoyed our cycling trip. The bikes were excellent and we did not have any mechanical issues with them. They were a joy to ride. The daily distance was perfect for us as well. The paniers were also great and provided enough room for our daily needs. The accommodation was excellent and our bags were always ready when we arrived. We also took in many of your suggestions for places to eat and they were great recommendations. We ate well over the week with wonderful seafood. Thanks also for your assistance in getting us to Saint Malo and for assisting us retrieve our passports !! (...) Thanks again for a great week and all the best. I would recommend Abicyclette to others. Prudence (08/2018)
